All potential problematic traits, such as, but not limited to, people aggression, animal aggression, food aggression, door bolting, resource guarding, uncontrolled barking, marking or urinating indoors, or any other behaviors, must be fully disclosed with the DoD Boarder before boarding arrangements are made.
Dogs who have ever been involved in a dog bite suit are not allowed to be listed through our network if found guilty of any physical harm. Additionally, any dog which has a record of aggression, has bitten another animal or person and broke skin, or has killed another animal, is prohibited from using our network. Any dogs which may be a risk to DoD Boarders, people or other animals will not be approved for pet boarding services. Dogs on Deployment may request references from a Military Pet Owner's veterinarian, boarding facility or past DoD Boarder to confirm a lack of aggression before approving a listing for a Pet in Need.
All pets listed on our website must be current on vaccinations within the past 12 months. For dogs, this includes rabies, distemper and parvovirus at a minimum. For cats, this includes rabies and distemper. Pets residing in certain counties or states may have more strict vaccination requirements. Military Pet Owners are required to give a current copy of their pet(s) vaccination record to the DoD Boarder prior to boarding beginning.

Additional Agreement and Understanding to Join
Dogs on Deployment reserves the right to remove any listing which does not meet the above criteria. Dogs on Deployment is a networking site only and does not place pets. It is the Military Pet Owner's responsibility to interview and choose the DoD Boarder that fits their needs.
In order to ensure up to date information regarding our Pets in Need, any accounts will be automatically unpublished after 2 months of inactivity. Military Pet Owners must actively log into and use their accounts to ensure their listings remains active.
All messages sent through Dogs on Deployment will be monitored by Dogs on Deployment to ensure proper compliance with our program. The Military Pet Owner or DoD Boarderwill notify Dogs on Deployment if and when a successful placement of a Pet in Need with a DoD Boarder is arranged.
After boarding periods are completed, the legal Military Pet Owner must take possession of their pet back, unless prior authorization from the DoD Boarder to extend the length of boarding is arranged. Dogs on Deployment does not tolerate any military member or spouse who intends to relinquish their Pet Owner responsibility on a DoD Boarder and the DoD Boarder may seek legal action against the Pet Owner should such an occurrence happen.
Dogs on Deployment is reserved for military members who have no other choice, family or support to rely on for help with pet care during their military commitments. Our DoD Boarders should be reserved for those who are utilizing Dogs on Deployment as a last resort. Ensure that all other options have been exhausted before utilizing a DoD Boarder.
It is highly recommended that a contract is completed between DoD Boarder and Pet Owner before boarding begins. An example contract is provided for DoD Boarders and Pet Owners found under your Account Management.

Pet Boarding Services Liabilities
Property Damage by Guest Pets
DoD Boarders and DoD Organizations acknowledge and agree that neither Dogs on Deployment nor a Military Pet Owner(s) have any responsibility to reimburse or otherwise cover you for any property damage that may be caused by a Pet in Need which is being boarded, unless the DoD Boarder/DoD Organization provides proof of damages done by guest pet(s) to the Military Pet Owner prior to receiving damage repair or cleaning services. This may include, but is not limited to, photos or video of scratched or chewed on furniture, or estimate done by professional cleaning service verifying the presence of urine in carpet or furniture. It must be beyond a responsible doubt that the damage was done by the guest pet(s), and not by a resident pet. A reimbursement or payment plan to cover said damages by the Military Pet Owner shall be agreed upon prior to the DoD Boarder receiving repair or cleaning services. If repair or cleaning services are rendered prior to making an agreement with the Military Pet Owner, the DoD Boarder/DoD Organization shall provide proof of damage retroactively. The Military Pet Owner shall reimburse the DoD Boarder/DoD Organization in a manner which is fair based on the proof of the damages and what was previously agreed upon in the DoD Boarding Contract. All receipts of the repair or cleaning services shall be provided by the DoD Boarder/DoD Organization to the Military Pet Owner for reimbursement or payment. All parties hereby agree not to seek any such reimbursement or other damages from Dogs on Deployment in the event of any such property damage.
For Emergency Medical Situations Involving a Military Pet Owner’s Pet
Military Pet Owners should ensure that the DoD Boarder is provided with contact information to reach the Military Pet Owner, or approved emergency contact, in the event an emergency medical situation arises involving a Military Pet Owner’s pet. Military Pet Owners and DoD Boarders acknowledge and agree that, to the extent any situation arises where the Military Pet Owner’s pet is required to receive emergency veterinary care while in the care or custody of the DoD Boarder, the DoD Boarder shall make reasonable efforts to contact the Military Pet Owner and notify him or her of the situation. If the Military Pet Owner cannot be contacted, the DoD Boarder should contact Dogs on Deployment at 610-800-3631 or firstname.lastname@example.org and Dogs on Deployment shall make reasonable efforts during Dogs on Deployment’s normal business hours to contact the Military Pet Owner to notify them of the situation. If the Military Pet Owner cannot be reached following reasonable efforts, the Military Pet Owner authorizes their DoD Boarder and Dogs on Deployment to authorize care on his/her behalf in order to promptly treat Military Pet Owner’s pet. Military Pet Owners acknowledge and agree that the costs of any such treatment for emergency medical situations is the sole and exclusive responsibility of the Military Pet Owner and that Military Pet Owner will be responsible for reimbursing their DoD Boarder or Dogs on Deployment, as appropriate and may be billed for any amount to reimburse costs incurred by the DoD Boarder or Dogs on Deployment attendant thereto. Specific instructions for DoD Boarders on how to handle emergencies with regards to the Pet in Need during boarding should be fully disclosed in the Boarding Contract.
For Dog Bite During Boarding Involving a Military Pet Owner’s Pet
Military Pet Owners should ensure that any dog that is boarded through Dogs on Deployment, is covered by dog-bite insurance before any Pet Boarding Services begin. Any dog which has previously been involved in a dog bite incident, or has a history of aggression with other animals, people or especially children, is absolutely not allowed to be listed on Dogs on Deployment as a Pet in Need, however Dogs on Deployment has no way of verifying a dog’s past history, and is reliant on honest disclosure from Military Pet Owners. Should a Pet in Need be boarded with a DoD Boarder bite another animal or person, the DoD Boarder shall immediately contact the Military Pet Owner and Dogs on Deployment. The Military Pet Owner will be responsible for all damages done by their Pet in Need, to include any medical coverage needed to treat a bite victim. The DoD Boarder has the sole discretion to continue to board a Pet in Need who has proven to be a liability or aggressive, and has been involved in a bite. If the DoD Boarder no longer wishes to board a Pet in Need who has bitten during boarding, the Military Pet Owner must do everything in reason to find alternate care for their Pet in Need, but may not utilize Dogs on Deployment’s network. This may include professional boarding services. The DoD Boarder has the right to enter into a legal dog bite dispute against the Military Pet Owner if the dog bite is significant in nature. Any dog which has bitten during boarding, should remain in a protective muzzle as appropriate, to be purchased by the Military Pet Owner, until the Pet in Need is placed in a more appropriate home in order to prevent another bite from occurring. Specific instructions for DoD Boarders on how to handle a dog bite with regards to the Pet in Need during boarding should be fully disclosed in the Boarding Contract.
For Flea Situations Involving a Military Pet Owner’s Pet
Military Pet Owners acknowledge and agree that, to the extent any situation arises where the Military Pet Owner’s pet introduces fleas into a DoD Boarder’s home, the Military Pet Owner shall be responsible for a reasonable amount to reimburse costs incurred attendant thereto. These costs may include, but are not limited to, costs associated with treating a DoD Boarder’s resident animals and/or home for fleas or flea prevention. It is the responsibility of all Military Pet Owners to disclose any knowledge of flea issues associated with their pets to all DoD Boarders before any Pet Boarding Services begin. Military Pet Owners are required to ensure that their pets are current on flea prevention treatment before boarding begins, and during the length of a boarding through Dogs on Deployment.
Dogs on Deployment recommends that DoD Boarders/DoD Organizations obtain appropriate insurance for their Pet Boarding Services. In addition, Military Pet Owners should obtain appropriate pet health insurance and dog-bite coverage, as appropriate, for their Pet in Need. All Members are encouraged to review any insurance policy that you may have and may affect a pet boarding, and in particular please make sure that you are familiar with and understand any exclusions to, and any deductibles that may apply for, such insurance policy, including, but not limited to, whether or not your insurance policy will cover the actions or inactions of Pets in Need with respect to which you provide any Pet Boarding Services.
If you, as a Military Pet Owner, choose to use a DoD Boarder found through Dogs on Deployment for Pet Boarding Services and fail to retrieve your pet within seven (7) days (or the time period set forth in the applicable jurisdiction's animal abandonment or cruelty laws, if earlier) after the boarding end date of your Pet Profile, you agree that Dogs on Deployment, may (but has no obligation to), in its sole discretion, place your dog in foster care and notify the authorities. You agree that you will be responsible for and will reimburse Dogs on Deployment for all costs and expenses of any such action, and you acknowledge that you may become subject to any applicable laws that may govern your failure to retrieve your pet, including all applicable animal abandonment or cruelty laws. Should there be a Service Commitment preventing you from retrieving your dog within the original boarding end date, you must notify your DoD Boarder of any changes to your boarding plans, and your DoD Boarder must be in compliance with any new changes. Military Pet Owners also agree that should a pet appear to have been abandoned with a DoD Boarder, that Dogs on Deployment, may (but has no obligation to) contact the Military Pet Owner’s chain of command for their branch of service to make them aware of any intentional fraud or abuse of Dogs on Deployment’s network.
